For the combo of information regarding a players past, present and possible future, it is hard to beat BP as a one-stop shop.

Congrats to the whole BP team. The yearly wait for this years annual is over and it was certainly worth the wait. While I have had it less than 24 hours and not had time to digest the whole thing, a few observations.
I was also one the one reviewers who found last years annual a disappointment. The physical book was inferior from the font size making it hard to read to the quality of the paper being flimsy, it just made it a harder read. This year has none of those production problems. The text jumps off the page and the paper is of a thicker stock. All things that make the digestion of the actual content of the text a better experience. Thank you.
As always for me, the team specific essays are a highlight. The BP team does an excellent job of finding a collection of writers who present interesting views (even if one does not always agree with all the points being made). The expanded Team Prospectus boxes are nice to give a teams success or failure some additional context & I love the addition of the Payroll & Farm System ranking charts (esp. love the front office personnel listing including all the Prospectus alums who have moved on from being contributors to the annual to helping with baseball decisions).
The player write-ups are the reason that many people buy the guide and in a limited reading they seem pretty solid this year. Humor is a subjective thing and while it might not land for everyone, there are plenty of other guides out there with simple, dry baseball numbers/facts for those who don't appreciate a good narrative. I miss many of the writers who have moved on over the years (Christina Kahrl, Kevin Goldstein, Nate Silver.. the list goes on and on) but change is healthy for any organization and new favorites (Doug Thorburn, Sam Miller, etc) develop and emerge.
As for stats - they are certainly many more sources available than there used to be. But for the combo of information regarding a players past, present and possible future, it is hard to beat BP as a one-stop shop. It is why I come back every year.

better than the previous two editions

It arrived last Monday. I'm a third of the way through. I've been diligently reading the annuals since 2001. Starting in 2013, the team essays began to lag. There was some improvement last year, but even more for 2016.
Gone are the heydays the the mid-2000's writers (Goldstein, Jaffe, Goldman, Kharl, Silver, Sheehan, Keri), but the 2016 edition is a good annual. I trust PECOTA more than other forecasting systems, and the player comments underneath them are sometimes entertaining.
So far, the award goes to the story of Bruce Bochy's operation last winter.

Possibly the best edition ever

This is the best edition in a long time. As far as the formatting and presentation, it's the best edition ever.
The BP Annual has undergone significant changes since Sam Miller and Jason W. took over a few years ago as they seem to be responding to and assimilating feedback from the passionate cult-following this book has. Now they've released their finest book yet. The player comments seem meatier than ever, filled with insightful takes informed by both analytics and scouting. The wit and snappy prose we've come to love is still here and it makes for a very entertaining reading experience.
In the past I've had mixed feelings about them bringing in 30 different outside writers to do the team essays (another change wrought by editors Sam and Jason) and I'm still not crazy about it but this year's edition has very few essays that miss their mark. Many of them are absolutely fantastic, either for their beautiful prose or sharp insights or both.
For the first time ever they've added in every team's logo, a diagram of every team's ballpark and added in some other stats and charts that help provide an accurate snapshot of a team. The formatting is terrific, even the small nuances like starting each team chapter on the recto page. There are lots of other upgrades that I thought were long overdue and which really enhance this great text.
This is the BP Annual fans want.
And as far as 2016 Baseball publications, nothing even comes CLOSE to this. It's a tour de force that every serious seamhead needs to have in their hands.
