The main part of the book I like is the 100 items to use in an emergency

This book is very thorough on the topic of water: It describes the causes and effects of dehydration, allowing you to detect problems before tey develop further. The chapter on toxins in water, and illnesses that can be caused made me really think about the advantages of using mineral or filtered water as opposed to tap water. The main part of the book I like is the 100 items to use in an emergency. It provides descriptions of the uses/benefits of each item, and the list is so extensive you can constantly pick up new ideas. I really did like the idea of the 'bug out bag' as an all in one kit for survival; it condenses everything into one package which is much more efficient for explorers or in a disaster situation.

Very general and simple discussion on water -- not so much on prepping. On the other hand, the 100 items for the bugout bag would mean your bag is likely a hundred pound weigh -- and that is without the car tools and supplies that are listed as components.

A lot of errors...

I have mixed feelings about the memoir--other reviewers here have eloquently expressed their reservations about the content. (I definitely come down on the side of TMI about sex life and could have included substantially more material about show biz experiences and professional development.) This is not so much a review, but a comment on changing publishing practices. I have a background in publishing. Up until about 10-15 years ago, publishing houses had in-house copyediting departments, and all titles would be copy-edited, fact-checked, and proofread. Nowadays, this work is sometimes farmed out and performed on a freelance basis, or it's not done at all. This book is quite full of errors and contradictions, as well as the occasional typo. For example, the author's chronology is not consistent. At one point, when first meeting his wife-to-be, he mentions being 29 years old; two years later, he mentions being 28. Lotte Lenya is identified as being "Brecht's widow"; she was in fact married to Kurt Weill. Many more of these. Where's the editor? It's a shame that apparently there was no one available to check any of these items. Perhaps if there is a reprint, they will be corrected at that time.

It's tough to hide yourself...

It's tough to hide yourself from yourself as actor Joel Grey seems to say in his new memoir, "Master of Ceremonies". Grey, now 83, has "outed" himself in print, after living as a gay man all his life. He tells his story in an engaging manner and there's a lot for the reader to think about.

Joel Grey - born Joel Katz in Cleveland - came from an entertainer father and mother who loved being related to talent. Their marriage was long and didn't seem particularly happy; his father was loving to his sons, while his mother was of a mercurial temperament. Both came from Jewish immigrant families and both sides of the family moved from Cleveland to Los Angeles when Mickey Katz struck it big in show business. Joel had been performing in local Cleveland productions and continued his career in fits and starts in Los Angeles. Eventually, he, too, was employed as a Broadway star and acclaimed film and TV actor. He was one of the few actors who won both a Tony (Broadway) and Oscar (film) for the same role - The EmCee in "Cabaret".

But Joel Gray struggled with personal issues for most of his life. He was gay or bi-sexual. Long attracted to men, he knew early on he wanted to marry a woman and raise a family. Indeed, he married Jo Wilder and they had two children, before divorcing after 20 or so years of marriage. He had had relationships with men before marriage, but stopped during his marriage. Or so he told himself; in truth, his trysts with other men, mostly, like him, married, were not in his mind, "cheating". Having sex with men was not like having sex with women during a marriage, he rationalised. Since his divorce in the early 1980's, Grey has explored his sexuality and finally come out as a gay men.

"Master of Ceremonies" is equally about Grey's personal and work life. They could not always have been easy to combine, but Joel Grey seems to have reached the age of 83 with a certain personal peace and acceptance. That's nice to read.

“The only truly safe place for me was the theater.”

In “Master of Ceremonies,” we learn that Joel Grey was a short Jewish kid with a moody and dominating mother who dressed “her prized possession” in flamboyant outfits. Unsurprisingly, his peers bullied him. Grey came of age at a time when few men dared admit that they were gay. After he divulged the truth about his sexual orientation to his mother, she retorted: “Don’t ever touch me again. You disgust me.” He never forgot her chilling words. Fortunately, Grey’s sweet-natured father, Mickey Katz, a gifted clarinetist and saxophone player, remained loyal and supportive. Joel sang, danced, told jokes, and did impersonations in Mickey’s Yiddish-American revue, “Borscht Capades.” However, Joel was already thinking about the future. He wanted to make his mark in the theater, and in spite of his preference for men, hoped to marry and start a family someday.

Grey took pride in putting his unique stamp on the roles he played. Most memorable, of course, is the iconic master of ceremonies in Cabaret. It is fascinating to learn that the Emcee was, at first, a peripheral character. Grey fleshed him out, portraying him as a “mercenary, lascivious, and menacing” presence whose outrageous behavior pushed the boundaries of propriety, even in an already degenerate Weimar Republic. Grey takes credit for placing greater emphasis on the Emcee, “who turned out to be not only the glue but also the essence of the show.” For his efforts, Joel Grey earned a Tony and an Oscar.

With the able assistance of co-author Rebecca Paley, Grey recalls both amusing and painful episodes from his volatile childhood in Cleveland and Los Angeles. In spite of his torment at having to conceal a major part of his identity, Grey looks back with pleasure at his more than seven decades in show business. He tells intriguing anecdotes about what it was like to work with Hal Prince, Bob Fosse, Liza Minnelli, and other celebrities, and recounts the highs and lows of his twenty-four year marriage to Jo Wilder. Grey can be tough on himself, but he also has a substantial ego. He provides too much information about his many liaisons with both men and women. Still, “Master of Ceremonies” is an entertaining, candid, and poignant memoir by a talented and hard-working performer. Joel Grey, who is eighty-three, may regret some of the choices he made over the years, but he seems, at last, to be comfortable in his own skin.

Awesome book for beginners!

Easily accessible for beginners, this is a book is will please even the less enthusiastic readers! My boyfriend is starting to learn English and usually has an aversion to reading. However, he really liked the short texts accompanied by nice pictures and the ability to 'choose his own adventure'. Words are repeated to make it easier to retain the new vocabulary. Activities are included in the back of the book.

About the Author
Karel (Silver Fox) Pravec is a 3rd degree Black Belt under legendary Renzo Gracie with over 23 years of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experience (since 1993). During his training at the world renowned Renzo Gracie Academy, Karel has trained with and studied under some of the highest authorities in the art, including Renzo Gracie, John Danaher, Rodrigo Gracie, Daniel Gracie, Matt Serra, Ricardo Almeida and Shawn Williams. Karel is a highly sought-after instructor who has taught seminars across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Latin America, and has coached BJJ and submission grappling on the national and international level and cornered amateur & professional MMA fighters. Karel has studied martial arts, including Tae Kwon Do (3rd degree black belt) for 30 years. In 1993, Karel started taking classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the New York/New Jersey area when they first became available (after attending 2 Gracie seminars in 1991 and 1992). Shortly after, Renzo Gracie, one of the most successful and dynamic practitioners and teachers of the art moved from Brazil to New Jersey to open an academy, and Karel became one of Renzo’s first students. The techniques in here are WELL worth the price!

This is a great little handbook because it takes a few of the most common submissions/positions Karel prefers to utilize and elaborates on them heavily so that no matter how the opponent reacts, a submission opportunity presents itself. The techniques don't require strength, speed, or athleticism; rather, they rely on timing and momentum (two key components of Silver Fox's jiujitsu style). I'm currently going through the techniques with an adult BJJ class I teach and there are weeks and weeks worth of material. I've already started utilizing a number of the concepts and they really do make a difference.

And for those who don't learn well by looking at still pics, the book comes with a discount code to order the full videos at Digitsu.com (which are excellent and well worth studying!).

The fact that Silver Fox is highly regarded by people such as Renzo Gracie, John Danaher, Firas Zahabi, Matt Serra, and Georges St. Pierre speaks volumes in and of itself.

Master Karel is a wealth of practical knowledge that has been accumulated for many years of training with the best. He continues to train and stay up to date on the latest information, which you will find in this book. Although the title says for scrawny middle aged guys, anyone can use the techniques in this book to further their game and become better all around BJJ practitioners. I couldn't recommend this book more and the pictures and detail make it very easy to understand.

I love every bit of this book! The moves are broken down in a way that anyone can follow along. There are also little details in this book that are essential to finishing your opponent with the submissions that some times Instructors forget to mention. I would recommend this book to any BJJ practitioner, reguardless of your experience level.

Great sequel to a terrific story

I liked the first book so much that I was both excited and wary to read this one. I'm not a big fan of series books, because most of them lose steam for me the further I get into them. That did not happen here, and my excitement for the series actually increased with this second book. Many authors drag their stories out with filler to lengthen them enough to fill several books. I expected at least a little bit of filler here, but there was none at all. The story kept moving forward in the same exciting way as in the first book. Questions about the mystery were actually answered, and there was more character development.

Seraph was overwhelmed by the bond in the first book, but she became more independent and proactive in this one as she adjusted to her new life. There is still plenty of reverse harem sizzle to enjoy , but it also became more complicated for all of them to deal with. It's causing an understandable strain on them, as it realistically would. The emotional complexity of the situation is conveyed in a spectrum of reactions from the characters in keeping with their various personalities.

Silas is the most volatile, and he is my favorite. I don't mean that he is just my favorite guy in this story, but he is my favorite love interest in any story. I've been searching for him in all the romance stories I've ever read, and I've finally found him. He is exactly to my taste in every way. It's like the author wrote him specifically for me, but I'll be generous and share him with you. I've been in lust with lots of fictional characters, but I'm in love with Silas. Not that there isn't lust in this story, because that scene in the hotel room was some of the hottest sexual tension I've ever read.

I want to mention how much the side characters of Poison and Clarin have grown on me over the course of these two books. They are each so much fun in their own ways and add humor to the story. Yet they also have deeper sides to their personalities that are touched on in the story, and they keep Seraph from being isolated in her bond with the guys. She has friends, family, and enemies, so the plot has much more than romance to keep it interesting.

I'm not sure how, but it's better than the 1st!

I'm always worried that a second or third book in a series will be a let down from the first, but this one definitely doesn't have that problem. In fact, I'm not sure how the author pulled it off, but I felt this book was even better than the first. And I loved the first one, so that's saying something. The pace in this book is pretty steady right up until the last quarter when things get really crazy, really fast.

Seraph is still struggling with understanding and accepting the bond, as well as the different relationships between all the guys, especially Silas, he was definitely a scene-stealer in this book. Seraph has several hot and steamy as well as heartbreaking scenes with him. We get to find out a lot more about the Zev in this book and their society, but there are still plenty of holes left for future books. The Messenger, along with his collaborators, ramp up their game in this book--although we don't really get to see the culmination until the last quarter of the book, and wow the action didn't stop right up until the end. I really can't say more about the plot without revealing major spoilers, needless to say I was hanging on to my seat at the end with all the rollercoaster twists and turns--some of which I saw coming and some I didn't. There is just betrayal upon betrayal at the end, the worst being from the last people Seraph (and the reader) would have expected.

Warning: The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger. Please let the next book come out really quickly!

Again, hooked to the very end

I preordered this 2nd book because I finished the last one within 24hrs and could not get enough of it. I had to read it once more. This time, I'm kind of sad I'll have to wait again. Don't get me wrong, I truly love the story, but without risking giving something away, I just feel sad that it's over again so suddenly. I hope the next book does not take too long, but if Miss Jane so happens to read this...please don't rush the story just to get it out there. I think I'm somewhat terrified to read the next installment. This may not be going where I'd hoped it to go. Regardless, I have to say that I would recommend this story, hopefully Miss Jane will lead us to a happier ending next time.

I love this coloring book

I'm having a hard time not putting these finished fully-colored pages on people's windshields in parking lots. I love this coloring book, the pictures are nice and simple, and each page is nicely composed to make for a beautiful finished piece. I wish it was longer, as there are only 25 pages, but for the price it's hard to complain about that!

Haha, I love this coloring book. Each page a curse word and a simple design. I plan on buying more of these for gifts. I think I might have a hard time stopping myself from coloring pages to give to people that p*ss me off. There are quite a few pages considering the lower price of thus coloring book. Definitely buying more if these.

Just ok.

This book is ok. The pictures are nice enough but the paper is thin and the ink seeps through. The pages tore out roughly as well. It isn't horrible but it isn't great either!
