About the Author
Author and researcher Linda Masterson is an award-winning writer and the author of two popular books: Living With Bears Handbook, and Surviving Wildfire, a practical guidebook for homeowners born from real-world experience. Masterson has been a featured presenter at conferences and workshops, both for bears (International Association for Bear Research and Management) and wildfire (National Fire Protection Association). Her business background includes extensive experience in strategic planning, marketing and communications, including years as a creative director and senior vice president of Ketchum Communications. Linda was a member of Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Bear Aware team for more than a decade, and along with her husband Cory Phillips, has hiked through more than a hundred parks and forests throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Everthing you need to know about bears in one place

Ok so I am a little biased here. Because of my profession, I have first-hand knowledge of what happens when bears and people interact in shared spaces. I have had my heart broken when human carelessness and selfishness results in a bear having to be killed. BUT I have also seen the great things that happen when people become educated about bears. This book is geared towards everyone who lives, works, or recreates in bear country…or those just interested in bears. It addresses why bears do what they do and what we can do to make sure that bears have a place in our collective future. It is written in such a way that it can be easily understood and enjoyed by a person of any age and interest, from beginning readers to professionals. I really think that everyone should read this book. Not just because it is based on years of collective expertise, and not just because it would make my job easier, but because it is interesting and gives people all the tools and information they need to participate in making sure that bears and people can go on coexisting without conflict on this beautiful planet we share.

Living with Bears is a fun and interesting way to get the information you need to co-exist with bears. Linda Masterson nailed it with this entertaining and thorough resource that is a must read for anyone living, recreating, or working in bear country. Real world examples of communities struggling with how to prevent or resolve issues with these crafty and hungry critters really makes the book come alive and provides practical solutions for others struggling with some of the same issues. Living with Bears doesn't disappoint!

Infomative and entertaining, a must read

A must read especially if you live in Bear country.
Call me biased, our community is documented in the book, the techniques work. It is a thoughtful, well written book that is informative and entertaining even if you do not live in Bear country. For those of you who do it gives you insight on how your community can CAUSE and CURE problems with bears. Yes you can peacefully "live with Bears". Great job Linda.
