About the Author
Richie Kohler is one of only four men in the world who has been to the RMS Titanic and physically diving inside her equally tragic sister ship, HMHS Britannic. His passion for technical scuba diving and maritime history began in 1980, and he is internationally known for exploring some of the most challenging and dangerous shipwrecks in the world. His explorations have helped to locate and name numerous lost vessels, including the minelaying submarine U-215 on the Georges Banks off Nova Scotia and the WWII destroyer USS Murphy that was crushed and forgotten in the New York approaches. Charlie Hudson a retired army officer and veteran of Desert Storm, is an avid recreational scuba diver who has authored several scuba-themed novels and women s fiction as well as nonfiction books. She contributes to two online scuba forums and spent two years writing for a local community newspaper. Her twenty-two year Army career included assignments involving extensive technical writing, and she was published in different military journals. She later had a corporate career as a defense services contractor and technical writer before she retired.

A Great Read for Brittanic Buffs and Wreck Diving Afficionados

I first met Richie Kohler in April 2005 at an event for The History Channel. His show (Deep Sea Detectives) and my show (Digging for the Truth) were broadcast back-to-back on Monday nights that year and we were both in town to meet advertisers. Five months later, we did a cross-over promotion in which we both appeared on each others shows in Egypt. As a result, we had some memorable dives in Alexandria looking for the Lighthouse and Palace of Cleopatra. In the 11 years since, Richie and I have dove many more times together and, when I wanted to get my CCR (rebreather) certification, Richie was my instructor. So it's fair to say we share a brotherly-connection based on hard travel, long dives, and the strange bond of working in front of a camera together.
I just finished reading this book and am so proud of Richie's (and Charlie's) efforts. "Mystery of the Last Olympian" is a deep dive into the historical context and significance of the Olympic-class ocean liners (Olympic, Titanic, Britannic), the shockingly-unusual circumstances of Ms. Violet Jessop, and the tragic death of explorer and expedition leader Carl Spencer. It is also an homage to the victims of war and, most specifically, to Carl. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Carl Spencer, but I certainly recall speaking to Richie a day or so after the incident. This is where "Mystery of the Last Olympian" shines brightest -- that authors have clearly sought to present the reader with a contextual richness that invites you to be a part of the expedition team and to participate in the quest to unravel Britannic's mysteries.
Divers, historians, explorers, wreck aficionados -- really anyone with a passion for going into the dangerous, hidden corners of our planet -- will appreciate the tremendous effort the authors have put into this work and enjoy the fruits of their labor. There's even a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) document in the Appendix - a real gem for expedition-minded folks who want to study risk assessments and protocols from some of the industry's best.
Richie and Charlie - thanks for taking the time to write this book. Violet and Carl would be very proud.

Suspence / Action / Discovery....Simply a MUST Read

Simply one of the best non-fiction books I've ever read. From joy to tragedy the book outlines real explorations to the Titanic and Britannic and the secrets they hold. It only took me 2 1/2 days to read this book as I just couldn't put it down. Richie and Charlie do a tremendous amount of research and fact checking to ensure the stories were as they happened.
If you're arm-chair adventurer or the seasoned pro, this book is for you. You won't be disappointed. - Capt Gary

Richie and Charlie are fantastic storytellers, and captivate you with the story of Titanic's tragic sister ship. It's a true story of tragedy and adventure on the high seas - telling the stories of Britannic's short life, her near instantaneous sinking, and of the true adventurers - the deep wreck divers - who again and again risked it all to uncover her secrets, and tell her amazing story. It reads more like an action novel than a non-fiction work, and you won't be able to put it down! Highly recommended! -Mike P.
