[Racing Horse Training: Compared is very informative and gives a different view into both countries' racing industries that I don't think you'd be able to get from the media, standing on the track, or even behind the scenes where the horses are prepped for the races.]
From the Author
This book is about my personal experiences and thoughts in regards to the differences and opposites between two very different worlds of the thoroughbred racing industry. Not everything is glorious about this sport and my words are meant to give every reader the option to think about a different perspective. Making horse racing safer and healthier for our athletes, horses and riders alike, is my priority.
From the Back Cover
RACEHORSE TRAINING: COMPARED is a revolutionary book that throws wide the doors of thoroughbred horse racing - comparing the European training style to that of the U.S. training style. As much a memoir and a testimony of the author's relentless drive to live her dream in the Southern United States, this book is rich fantasy grounded in ruthless reality!
Arriving on the South Florida coast, author Marion N. Seidel soon realized there were many more profound differences between her beloved Germany and her new home in America. Knowing little English but fully versed in thoroughbred horse training,Marion discovered language was not the only barrier she'd have to overcome if she were to make it as an exercise rider or jockey in the United States!
Comparing the two styles of horse racing, European and American, Ms. Seidel offers a captivating glance into the lifestyles of the rich and infamous -- filled with luxury, privilege and the equine excellence. Eye-opening!
By Jerri Keele
This book opened my eyes to the barbaric practices in racing. Think of what a wonderful and refreshing sport it could be if we treated these magnificent companion animals with the respect that they are so deserving.

Decent Person's (Troublemaker's) View of Racing Industry
By William Baehr
Ms. Seidel, who is from Germany and was trained in racing thoroughbreds there. While employed as a training rider in the U.S. she wanted answers to good questions about many of the suspiciously abusive training practices of the U.S. racing industry like the constant use of drugs. Her U.S. track associates failed to give her satisfactory answers. She got the typical U.S. treatment of questioners by being stonewalled which is not surprising. What is surprising is that she didn't get fired as a whistleblower/troublemaker. Welcome to the U.S., the land of willful ignorance, cover-ups and abuse.
Her story of the racetrack business sounds like so many U.S. businesses and government agencies in that what is practiced creates more problems than it solves in order to make more money. Solving problems is not rewarded in the U.S. Making minor problems into a major problems or creating problems where there are none is were the money is in the U.S. economy. People and animals are subject to abuse for the sake of profits? Who cares? That's just the American way. Everybody does it, so it's cool. People that ask good questions in order to learn and solve problems are uncool and troublemakers. Ms. Seidel should not expect to get a VIP seat at the Kentucky Derby and that's too bad because she should be on the board of directors of Thoroughbred racing. Thanks for writing a great book and maybe helping some people and horses to avoid abuse.
