A Slam Dunk on the Free Throw or Fury Hits a Home Run with his Basketball Book

Shawn Fury tells us everything we wanted to know about the jump shot–and then some. He chronicles the shot from its origins through its evolution into a three-point overindulgence. Along the way, he breaks down the shot as performed by various greats–Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, Rick Mount, Bob McAdoo, Steph Curry et al.–and more obscure talents, such as the forgotten phenom Raymond Lewis and the female Iowan sensation Denise Long (the first woman selected in the NBA draft). He analyzes the shot's place in the game and provides highlight reels of descriptive language of some of basketball's most iconic moments.
The book takes on the cozy feel of a memoir when Fury describes his conversations with various subjects, games of H-O-R-S-E with shooting gurus and childhood practice of his own jumper at his grandfather's farm. Throughout, he entertains us with his insights and sense of humor. he sprinkles his prose with gems like "The shooting forms of guys like Jamaal Wilkes and Alex English were the Catcher in the Rye of jump shots–something to be feared, hidden away, and possibly banned." and "On dunks, no one attacked rims like an win-hi-prime Dominique Wilkins–he seemed to hold a grudge against them, as if they'd somehow wrong his family years earlier and he'd returned to make them pay."
If you're a basketball fan, you've got to read this book. And if you're not, like me, you'll still enjoy it.

I was really interested in this book and was so glad to win it. I did read it and it was very interesting. Amazing thought put into a jump shot. Have passed it on to my husband who devoured it as well.
