A Beautiful Love Story!

I couldn't wait to read this story as I had the privilege of being interviewed by Ms. Harlow as the mother of an autistic child. I may end up coming back and editing this review, my mind is still running at warp speed over this amazing story.
This story was so emotional. Levi is a single father who has a (brief) history with Jillian and they are reunited at a wedding. Once they see each other their chemistry was instant and the heat between them could rival the sun.
For the first time in my life, as a reader, I found myself relating to Levi (the male lead) more than Jillian (the female lead). I loved Jillian, and we'll get to her, but Levi was my soul twin. His infinite love for his son, Scotty, the constant internal struggle he had, wanting to live his life, to experience life but also knowing that his son depended on him, more than most, was so relatable. I cried more than once knowing all too well the guilt and bittersweet agony being the parent to a special needs child can be.
Jillian was definitely on the confident side which I appreciated in a heroine. She wasn't desperate, but she did want to find her one, especially after watching her sister settle down and start their own families. She was definitely a great match for Levi, she met him every step of the way. She wasn't intimidated by Scotty despite Levi's fears. She also respected Levi's obligations as a father and never resented him having so much in his life besides her.
When Levi needs an extra push to make his life is own, to let go of the perfectionism he's allowed to cripple him, Jillian is strong enough to be that person. I really appreciate that quality in her. Sometimes when we love someone we want what is best for them, even if we risk losing them over it. Jillian was so incredibly strong to risk everything in order to encourage Levi to live the life he deserved, as well as making sure she received the love and attention she deserved.
The details and quirks of Scotty were endearing. His love of baseball statistics, the simple gestures he used to express is love for his father, the cute conversations between them, all of it made Scotty a part of my heart.
"There were times in the last eight years when he'd needed a father and a mother, when I'd needed someone with whom I could share the beautiful, painful honor of bringing him in the world...."
This is everything!
Ms. Harlow kept me in a steady rotation of laughing, crying and being pretty turned on through the story.
It was great to catch up with Jillian's sisters and their respective partners from the previous books in the series. Though this book can be read as a standalone you will get the most out of it by reading the previous 2 books in the series.
The heat factor was off the charts. Levi was an amazing and passionate lover and completely surprised me with his dirty talking! I should have known since he came from the mind of Ms. Harlow but it was an unexpected delight.
Overall I loved how healthy all the characters were. Yes, Scotty has autism but he has a loving father who takes great care of him and loves him just as he is. Yes, Levi is a tired, perfectionist single father but he wants more from life and he's ready to change, although slowly. Jillian is the perfect catalyst for this change without causing too much disruption. She didn't want to change or takeaway from Levi and Scotty's little family, she simply wanted to add to it. It was a truly beautiful story and will forever be one of my favorite stories of all time.

Great premise but it falls a bit short

Let me start by saying that I love Melanie Harlow's books and I love this series. Some Sort of Happy is hands down one of my favorite books this year and I also loved Some Sort of Crazy. So, I wanted to love this one so much, I loved the blurb and that cover is just perfection. Sadly, it was my least favorite of the series.
As with the other two books in this series, this can be read as a standalone although I wholeheartedly recommend that you read the previous two books, especially since the protagonists of each book are sisters. Some Sort of Love is Jillian’s story. Jillian is the oldest of the Nixon sisters and she’s an accomplished pediatrician. In the beginning of the story, Jillian is feeling a little uneasy since her middle sister is getting married and her younger sister is engaged and expecting a baby. At her sister’s wedding, she reconnects with Levi Brooks, a guy she had a very memorable hook-up with about 11 years prior. Levi is a full time single dad to an autistic kid and an architect. He is completely devoted to his son and is very tortured by situations from his past. Once they reconnected, sparks flew between them.
My main issue with the book was that with the premise of a single dad with an autistic son falling in love with a pediatrician, I expected a totally different story, one in which the heroine and the son would actually interact. That is not what happens here. Instead Levi is extremely frustrating and refuses to bring Jillian into his world and make her part of his family until the very, very end. Basically, for me, the story falls short on the actual love story. There is zero connection between the leads except for sex. The relationship they have is purely based on sex, sex and more sex. And Jillian, who is such a great character was basically treated as the side dish for most of the story. I do understand and commend Levi for being such a great dad and having reservations about integrating both parts of his life, but it became borderline ridiculous. And just as Jillian grew restless of waiting for Levi to actually integrate her in his family life, I grew restless with the book and ended up extremely disappointed on how the story turned out.
I still enjoyed the interaction between the sisters and the cameos by the characters from the Frenched series. And my rating might just be a reflection of my own preferences rather than on the actual book, so I totally recommend the book and the entire series. Melanie Harlow’s writing quality is superb regardless and I will definitely continue reading her books.

One of the BEST books I've read in a long time!

Some Sort of Love is the continuation of this absolutely wonderful series by Melanie Harlow. And, one of my best reads for far in 2016. If you haven't read the other books in the series, you'll want to start now. Though each is a standalone, the characters are interconnected. I can't imagine missing out on any of these great stories. The thought of missing these makes me feel sad. Seriously, not exaggerating, the thought of never having read these books makes me sad!
Some Sort of Love is the story of Jillian and Levi. A VERY brief college tryst is reignited when the two run into one another at a wedding. (I won't say whose!) The attraction and chemistry is immediate and off-the-charts! But, life isn't as simple as it was in undergrad. Both Jillian and Levi have demanding careers and Levi is the single father to a son with special needs. These are some rough waters to navigate and the couple must decide if their attraction and affections are a strong enough foundation to build a new life together.
Some Sort of Love brings back an incredible cast of characters - Jillian's sisters, Skylar and Natalie and their men Sebastian and Miles. I love each of these books for so many reasons. I love each of these couples and their unique struggles and circumstances. I absolutely can't pick a favorite!
And, let me just spend a minute worshiping all that is Melanie Harlow. I'm absolutely head over heels for her storytelling. Melanie Harlow creates characters that are a lovely combination of strong and vulnerable. There's something so relate-able and insightful about her characters, it's like you get a glimpse into yourself through the lens of her terrific players. The steamy scenes she dreams up are second to none. And, Harlow can describe a simple cocktail that makes my mouth water!
It was 2am when I finished the Some Sort of Love and it's one of the best books I've read in a long time! If you haven't read the Happy, Crazy, Love series - start right now, PLEASE! This entire series is packed with wonderful, emotional, dreamy romance and the most incredibly human, deliciously flawed characters. I finished this book in less than a day and I will be recommending it for weeks!
